Meet Melissa

Melissa Biscardi, is a concussion clinician, educator, and health-tech innovator advancing how the brain is assessed, trained, and supported after injury.

A registered nurse since 2006, Melissa has spent nearly two decades studying the brain through clinical practice, research, and education. Her work is driven by curiosity, precision, and a commitment to moving beyond one-size-fits-all recovery models—particularly at the intersection of neuroscience, rehabilitation, and technology.

Melissa is the founder and clinical director of Concussion Rehab in Toronto, Canada, where she has led a brain-wise, evidence-informed practice for over 10 years. Her clinical work is grounded in The Brainy Method™, a structured, systems-based approach to concussion care that emphasizes capacity, efficiency, and long-term neuroperformance rather than symptom management alone. Alongside patient care, Melissa is a dedicated mentor and educator, supporting clinicians in adopting best practices in concussion management and neurorehabilitation.

Melissa has authored four book chapters and numerous peer-reviewed research articles, available via www.concussionrehab.ca. She is also the creator of Brain Tool Kit, a mobile app designed to make eye movement, reaction time, balance, and cognitive assessment and training more accessible to clinicians and patients alike.

Her advanced training includes the Carrick Institute, a Master of Science focused on sex-specific outcomes after concussion, and a PhD examining virtual reality–based eye movement interventions for adults with concussion—earning her the unofficial (and fitting) title of Dr. Brainy.

Outside the clinic and lab, Melissa can usually be found hiking or climbing in the mountains, spending time with her family, or learning from her three-legged cat—an expert in adaptability.

"As a clinician working in functional neurology, I found Dr. Melissa Biscardi’s presentation at ISCN 2025 in Orlando both insightful and inspiring. Her discussion on concussion rehabilitation and the use of virtual reality in oculomotor therapy highlighted exciting possibilities for advancing patient care. I especially appreciated how she connected current research with practical clinical application. Thank you for contributing such meaningful work to the clinical neuroscience community, Dr. Biscardi!"
